Badges

Class Participation (Complete 6 - 150 Points Total)

  • Consistent Contributor (25 points - MANDATORY): Earn the gold level of this badge by documenting your substantial contributions to fifteen separate class discussions.
  • Discussion Leadership I (25 points - MANDATORY): Earn the gold level of this badge by documenting your group's excellence in your turn as class discussion leaders.
  • Discussion Leadership II (25 points - MANDATORY): Earn the gold level of this badge by documenting your group's excellence in your turn as class discussion leaders.
  • Friday Show and Tell (25 points): Earn this badge by presenting in Friday discussions of hacker culture. May be earned twice.
  • Exchange of Ideas (25 points): The Exchange of Ideas badge will be awarded to students who engage in civilized debate during our class discussions. May be earned twice.
  • Ready Respondent (25 points): Students will be awarded the ready respondent badge for coming to class prepared to discuss the questions posed by the group leading discussion.
  • Unique Insight (25 points): The Unique Insight badge will be awarded to students that clearly express and defend an original, unexpected, nuanced, or profound interpretation of our class reading.
  • Perfect Attendance (25 points): The instructor will award this badge to students who meet the requirements. It does not count as an elective badge, and therefore may be interpreted as "extra credit."

Individual Reading Responses (100 Points Total)

  • Draft/Workshop Badge I (25 points - MANDATORY): Earn this badge for completing your essay draft and participating in the workshop process.
  • Final Revision Badge I (25 points - MANDATORY): Complete response questions to demonstrate your understanding of the techniques used in your final revision.
  • Draft/Workshop Badge II (25 points - MANDATORY): Earn this badge for completing your essay draft and participating in the workshop process.
  • Final Revision Badge II (25 points - MANDATORY): Complete response questions to demonstrate your understanding of the techniques used in your final revision.

Wiki Participation (Complete 6 - 150 Points Total)

  • Diligent Drafter Badge (25 points - MANDATORY): Earn this badge by drafting substantial contributions for our wiki. (20 edits = Gold, 15 edits = Silver, 10 edits = Bronze)
  • Able Editor Badge (25 points - MANDATORY): Earn this badge by making productive changes on our wiki. (25 edits = Gold, 20 edits = Silver, 15 edits = Bronze)
  • Discussion Contributor Badge (25 points - MANDATORY): Earn this badge by contributing to on-wiki discussions on the talk pages. (15 edits = Gold, 10 edits = Silver, 5 edits = Bronze)

  • Blog Design Badge (30 points - MANDATORY): Earn this badge for completing your blog's visual design. May be reapplied for once.
  • Regular Updates Badge (30 points - MANDATORY): Update your blog on a regular basis. May be reapplied for once.
  • Rhetorical Awareness Badge (30 points - MANDATORY): Demonstrate your awareness of your blog's rhetorical awareness. May be reapplied for once.
  • Regular Readers Badge (30 points): Attract a large audience to your project blog! May be reapplied for once.
  • Hat Tip (30 points): Have your project blog mentioned by another blogger. May be reapplied for once.
  • Social Media Integration (30 points): Use Facebook, Twitter, or other social media sites to build awareness of your project & blog. May be reapplied for once.
  • World Awareness (30 points): Discuss the work of projects similar to your own on your blog. May be reapplied for once.

Final Project Artifact (Complete 5 - 150 Points Total)

  • Project Proposal Badge (30 points - MANDATORY): This badge application requires you to propose your final project and project artifact.May be reapplied for once.
  • Class Themes/Content Badge (30 points - MANDATORY): Demonstrate how your final project artifact expressed your projects connections to class readings. May be reapplied for once.
  • Rhetorical Awareness (30 points - MANDATORY): Demonstrate how your final project artifact meets the needs of its audience, purpose, medium and context in an effective and original way. May be reapplied for once.
