Cyberpunk Themes

The film shows many cyberpunk themes with the dystopian view that Gibson has on future societies. Large Corporations are the ones who hold the power in society which is a common theme in the cyberpunk genre. The film also shows traces of SCOT (social construction of technology) as a central theme of the movie is that it is not superior technology that will rule instead it is the person that uses the technology in the best way. Another central theme in cyberpunk is the enhancement of the human body thorough technology. Here the main character in the movie has a cybernetic brain implant which allows him to store information, this meaning that he has found a way to exceed the body’s capability. This is similar to how the Shapers use body modification in the novel Schismatrix
